1st Biannual Symposium
4 - 11 JUNE 2024
ERESOS · LESVOS
In the June 2024, Rhyax organized a Symposium in Eresos village, on the island of Lesvos. As this is meant to be a biannual event, we called this first iteration : Rhyax Symposium #1. It was modeled after the ancient Greek symposiums that took place around a dining table and usually featured food and drink. We took inspiration from Chris Marker’s French TV series Legacy of The Owl. The symposium was a week long gathering of twelve scholars, academics, filmmakers, artists a consisted of a series of conversations based on specific topics. Each day a topic was collectively chosen by the group. The topics included but where not limited to 1) What are the ingredients for radical kinship and care in a group?, 2) Silence as strike, as withdrawal, the economy of giving or having a voice 3) Palestine, what art can do in times of genocide.
